GDP per Capita (PPP) by Country

What Is GDP per Capita (PPP)?

GDP per Capita (PPP) measures a country’s total economic output divided by its population, adjusted for differences in price levels. It converts output into a common international dollar value that represents equivalent purchasing power across nations. This adjustment allows fair comparisons of average living standards despite varying local costs.

Why GDP per Capita (PPP) Matters to a Country’s Progress

  • Provides a realistic gauge of living standards by accounting for local cost of living differences.
  • Shows whether economic output per person is growing faster than population growth, reflecting productivity changes.
  • Enables fair global comparisons, informing development agencies, investors, and policymakers on relative national prosperity levels.
